Laptop and camera power in Tsalvo desert, Kenya, East Africa

Robert Payne Jun 25, 2014 09:08PM EDT

I need absolute recharge capability near the Tsalvo National Park, Kenya, East Africa.

A video documentary for adventure travel with ECONEWS requires continuing recharges for a week of work in a Maasai village. There is no electric in the village. The nearest wall plugs are an hour and thirty minutes away by truck or infrequent bus. And that town presents very serious threats to a foreigner with expensive video equipment. I want to remain within the care of the Maasai.

The system will be transported by local van, backpacked, then used in dust, and perhaps tropical storms.

Will your Laptop/Silver Panel system do it? As of now, I have found only one user evaluation of your system on Amazon -- and that fellow did not write how he used or where he used the unit. And that user thought the system vulnerable to breakage.

Can your laptop charger work in the Tsalvo?

This video shows the situation:

Hi Robert,

We do have people using all our products in a large variety of conditions, see: http://voltaicsystems.com/blog/ – there are users on mountains, jungles, deserts, rivers and East Africa.

If you’re talking about the 16 Watt Kit, that panel is waterproof and quite tough. I’ve crashed my bicycle with them on it pretty hard and they had a bit of a scratch but kept on running. If the panels, get dirty you can wipe them clean with a damp cloth.

Hope that helps,
Jeff
