Solar panel tracking

Uwe Jan 26, 2013 09:18PM EST

Hello

Does the circuitry in the V39 have a power point tracking capability to maximize the amount of energy stored in the battery from the solar panels?

Will any panel work as long as its within the input voltage range specified?

If I were to use a 20w panel (within voltage tolerances) would it cause the V39 to overheat, or just charge faster?

Thanks for your time.

Uwe,

The V39 features switching circuitry that will allow it to charge efficiently regardless of the input voltage assuming it’s within the 5-12V range, so yes, any panel within that range should work fine. With that said, it does charge very slightly more efficiently at the lower end of that range, so we recommend that when given the choice. The V39 accepts up to roughly 10W maximum, so the 20W panel might supply more than it can use, but it shouldn’t cause any problems or overheating as long as it’s within the voltage range. What are the specs of the panel you have in mind?

Thanks,
Tommy
